UNITED STATES KARATE ALLIANCE RULE CHANGES EFFECT STARTING IN 2022-2023 POINT YEAR
The following rule changes were voted upon and accepted by the Board of Directors to be effective starting in the 2022-2023 Point Year.
The number of points awarded for various tournaments has changed as follows:
USKA World Championships and USKA Nationals – Quad Points
First Place – 80 points
Second Place – 60 points
Third Place – 40 points
Fourth Place- 12 points
Grand Champion – 20 points
Regional Championships currently held in Ruston, Louisiana and Phoenix, AZ – Triple Points
First Place- 60 points
Second Place- 45 points
Third Place- 30 points
Fourth Place- 9 points
Grand Champion- 15 points
State Championships
First Place- 40 points
Second Place- 30 points
Third Place- 20 points
Fourth Place- 6 points
Grand Champion- 10 points
Maximum Point Tournaments:
First Place- 20 points
Second Place- 15 points
Third Place- 10 points
Fourth Place- 3 points
Grand Champion- 5 points
USKA RULE CHANGES STARTING IN 2023-2024 POINT YEAR
Current Rule: 4.2.e, 6.4 and 13.2 provide for the following national points weapons divisions and tournament weapons divisions for under the age of 18 years as follows:
Male and Female (14-17)
Male and Female (12-13)
Male and Female (10-11)
Male and Female (9 and under)
THE CURRENT RULE ABOVE REMAINS IN EFFECT AS THE PROPOSED RULE CHANGE FAILED.
NEW RULE FOR 11.11.b: A point may be awarded if the competitor is performing one of the following:
- Kicks or hand strikes with control to allowable scoring areas; provided however that an overhead hammer fist to the top of the head or a front hand jab to the body shall not be an acceptable scoring technique.
- Successfully scoring at the precise moment of the opponent’s attack.
- Deflecting an attack and simultaneously scoring on an unguarded target on the opponent, including the opponent’s unguarded back.
- Sweeping the front foot of the opponent boot to boot with control and scoring with an effective technique immediately.
THE ABOVE RULE PASSED AND REPLACES 11.11.b
THE FOLLOWING RULE CHANGE FAILED: A black belt who is 16-17 years of age may elect to compete in the adult black belt form and weapons divisions; however, once such an election is made, the 16-17 black belt must always compete in the adult black belt forms and weapons divisions for future competitions and point years and their points will be tabulated in the adult black belt forms and weapons division. Any points earned previously in the 16-17 forms and weapons division will be void. A 16-17 years old black belt who elects to compete in the adult black belt forms and weapons divisions must still compete in the 16-17 years old fighting divisions until said competitor reaches the age of 18.
